Joined: April 2003 Posts: 605 Location: Caribou, ME | I haven't seen any reference to US Applause serial numbers. Anyone have any info? I don't see any correlation to the CT ones whatsoever. I have an AA-14-1 (018640) and an Academy KA-14 (014508). I read somewhere the Academy was made in 1978 only, which may help date other Moosup guitars as either pre or post 78.... if that's true. I emailed Ovation a few months ago and they were very hazy recalling the Academy series and didn't have any info to offer. If they were sequential that would be a good tool; I read Moosup made about 100,000 total and I think they started in either 1975 or 1976. I don't know specifically when they moved production to Korea; all I know is I tried one of the Korean ones in a music store in the fall of '84 so it must have been some time before that. It would be assuming too much to simply divide 100,000 by the years in Moosup; it's never that simple. I also have a '79 1111 in nicotine jaundiced white. All three of them have their own personalities and I love all of them. Anyone have any info to share?

When I had my AA14 apart I don't recall seeing any date stamps but I will pop the neck to see. Ditto for the KA-14. If the numbers were sequential, one can surmise that anything lower than 085976 predates Aug 1979. http://cgi.ebay.com/1978-Ovation-Applause-AA14-7-Guitar-Body-Luthie...

Poor old 80% platic guitar has been a bit neglected since the Pacemaker arrived but I've promised to play it in the pub next week |
