Simcity 4 Not Working On Windows 10
When installing the game Sim City 4, I ran into a problem. After installing the first disk, which goes fine then asks me to insert disk 2, It freezes after I click yes. (I clicked yes in the dialog box that said Insert Disk 2) I am not sure why it freezes. I have run both Disk Cleanup and Disk. The Network Addon Mod, or NAM, is a modification for SimCity 4 Deluxe (or SimCity 4 with the Rush Hour Expansion pack), which adds a myriad of new transport network items, ranging from ground light rail, to fractional-angle roads, to roundabouts,. Replies (26) Method 1: Perform Clean Boot. Placing your system in Clean Boot state helps in identifying if any third party. Try to run a System File Checker (SFC) scan to check for any file corruption. SFC scan will scan for corrupt. You may also refer the computer. 1) Download and install it your self via the account page ('Account' tab on the web page navigation bar) 2) Install Galaxy, log in, let it install the game for you. If you haven't done either of those things (or have no idea what either means) then you don't have the game on your PC yet.
We're really sorry for the inconvenience, but please would you disable your ad-blocker? Our adverts are relevant and non-intrusive, they appear only at the top and the sides, never in the content. They don't include auto-playing audio either, they really won't spoil your enjoyment of the site. Thank you in advance!
Want to see this appeal go away forever? Support us on Patreon and we'll make that happen! Click the button on the left to find out more.
'I'm not running an ad-blocker!' -Refresh/reload the page, if you still see the panda or have other problems then click here to contact us immediately, thanks.
'Why are you doing this?' - Frankly we're struggling to make ends meet here especially since the site got more popular. The only way we can think to cover our costs is to run ads, but if so many of you keep blocking them...
'But I never click ads!' - Doesn't matter, you should only click them if they interest you. We get paid based on the number of views AND the number of clicks.
'You ruined the site!!!1! I want to send you hate mail!!' - Sure, click here.
Another fact - We have the software and the power to completely block adblock users from our site, but we're not going to, at least for now. We figure most of you would like to support us and you only installed Adblock because of other sites that aren't so considerate with their ad placement. Please, don't punish us because of them, in the seven or so years I've been a blogger/webmaster I've ALWAYS considered the need to balance monetisation with reader experience. I want to build an audience not send them away.
So go on, whitelist us and any other site you love. If it wasn't for ads, the internet would lose a whole chunk of really great niche content like this, which would be a real shame in our opinion.
Now, go ahead and read the page if you want to, but wouldn't it be much more convenient if you just whitelisted us? :)

The Sim City series of games has been keeping wannabe town planners occupied since 1989. With the latest instalment of the series getting so much negative publicity due to its unreliable servers and it’s arguably unnecessary requirement that you are always connected to the internet when you play, it seems like a good time to revisit the previous instalment in the series. Luckily this metropolis building mayor simulator can run on modern PC’s without too much hassle.
Installation
SimCity 4 should install on modern PC’s without any major issues, simply insert the DVD and follow the on-screen prompts to install the game. The version of the game we tested was the Deluxe Edition, which also includes the Rush Hour expansion pack, but there should be no issues installing the standard edition either.
Patching
Before taking your virtual mayors office, you should install the latest patch for SimCity 4. Patches for the game are still available from EA.com here. Download the relevant patch for your region and remember if you are using the Deluxe edition or the Rush Hour expansion pack you should download the SimCity 4: Rush Hour or Deluxe Edition patch. Note that you only need one patch (either the standard or the Rush Hour/Deluxe Edition patch) even if you installed Rush Hour separately from SimCity 4.
Widescreen support
SimCity 4 supports custom resolutions and will run with the most common widescreen screen modes. To enable these widescreen modes, we need to edit the games shortcut. Find the games shortcut on your Start Menu or Start Screen, right click and choose “Properties”. (Windows 8 users will need to right click on the games icon on the Start Screen, choose “Open File Location” and then right click on the shortcut that appears). The properties window for SimCity 4 will then appear, click on the “Shortcut” tab. The picture below shows the window that will appear:-
Click on the box labelled “Target” and press the “End” key on your keyboard or use the cursor keys to scroll to the very end of the line. Now, copy and paste one of the following additional commands. For 720p:-
-CustomResolution:enabled -r1280x720x32
Or for 1080p:-
-CustomResolution:enabled -r1920x1080x32
If your monitor uses a different resolution, simply substitute 1920×1080 for the appropriate values. Click on “OK” when you are done and then try to launch the game. If you followed the steps correctly, SimCity should now launch in your chosen widescreen resolution. According to the WideScreenGaming.net Wiki, at higher widescreen resolutions, “the images (thumbnails) of large cities in the region have a minor corruption”, but nothing you can’t live with.
Troubleshooting
Random crashes:- If you experience random crashes while playing SimCity 4, it may be due to the fact that you are using a multi-core CPU. Most modern PC’s use CPU’s with two or four processing cores, but in the past most PC’s only had one and this occasionally causes problems with older games. To fix this problem, you should configure the games shortcut to launch SimCity 4 and use only one of your computers CPU cores. See this tutorial for details of how to do this.
Souped-up SimCity
Like many popular PC games, SimCity 4 didn’t stop growing or expanding after the official expansion packs were launched. Hundreds of user created mods, buildings and textures are available for the game. Head over to Simtropolis to browse and expand your SimCity experience.
If you have already tried to install 'SimCity 4' or 'SimCity 4 Deluxe Edition' on Windows 8, you had to realize that the installation went well but against the game refused to start. Given the solution we found, this is due to the fact that processors now consist of multiple cores (Dual Core ,Quad Core, ...).
If you use the troubleshooting utility program compatibility, it will eventually tell you that the program is compatible with Windows 8. However, following this tutorial you will see Electronic Arts had planned a small option backward compatibility of his game
IMPORTANT :
- Apparently, the solution described in this tutorial doesn't work on all computers (with Windows 8). The tutorial was made in a VMware Workstation virtual machine and the game (version box : 2CDs) worked without problems.
However, depending on the hardware of your computer, it's possible that the game doesn't work.
If you own this game, try this solution, otherwise don't take the risk.
- To end this warning, know that the game works fine in a 'Windows XP SP3' virtual machine created with VMware Workstation 10.0.3 (the latest version in September 2014). The flashing of the game screen can be fixed by setting the render mode to 'Software'. To do this, go to the end of the tutorial.
We then tested the normal version of the game and the Deluxe on previous versions of Windows, and it turns out that Windows XP SP3, Windows Vista SP1 and Windows 7 (32 and 64 Bit), this game still runs correctly no changes necessary.
1. Install SimCity 4 on Windows 8
For Windows 8, here is the solution for SimCity 4 and SimCity 4 Deluxe Edition :
Start by installing normally SymCity 4.
Once the game is installed, go to the Apps folder located in the game folder
Default :
- C:Program FilesMaxisSimCity 4 DeluxeApps (or C:Program Files (x86)MaxisSimCity 4 DeluxeApps under 64-bit)
Right click on the 'SymCity 4.exe' file and click 'Send To -> Desktop (create shortcut)'.
Then right click -> Properties on the shortcut has been added to your desktop.
In the first box (named : Target), add the following parameters (leaving a space between the 'and the -) :
-w -r800x600x32 -CPUCount:1
These parameters are :
- Start the game in window with resolution 800x600 (given in the game)
- Forcing the game to run on a single processor (one heart) for the game to work.
Double click on the shortcut you just modified, and magic the game starts.
The intro appears. To remove, you can add the following parameter :
-intro:off
Note : '-' is part of the parameter.
The game will appear.
Apparently, Windows 8, it is impossible to run this old game in full screen.
Nevertheless, we found a way to engage in a custom resolution that is larger than the original.
To do this, use the 'CustomResolution' parameter instead of 'w' (for windows). This gives a resolution of 1680x1050 :
-CustomResolution:enabled -r1680x1050x32 -CPUCount:1
32 means that the game will starts with 32-bit color mode.
The game always starts in window but this one takes the place which corresponds to the resolution of the window.
If you specify the resolution of your screen, the window will take all the space of your screen and it sounds like the 'Full Screen'.
Because the game starts in windowed mode, it is possible that the taskbar through the window before the game, therefore we propose to automatically hide your taskbar.
Known issue : the game screen flashes.
On some computers, the game starts but the game screen flashes, making the game totally unplayable. This problem is due to a compatibility issue with the latest graphics cards.
However, to solve this problem, just change the render mode of the game, to 'Software'.
To do this, click the '...' button at the top right and then click the screen icon (outlined in red in the image) and then select 'Rendering : Software'.
Finally, click on 'Accept' and restart the game. Flickering problem has disappeared.
